Man Charged With Reckless Homicide In Waukegan Crash

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man has been charged with crashing his car into a motorcycle carrying his girlfriend early Saturday in north suburban Waukegan, leaving the 23-year-old woman dead.

Marco A. Garcia-Escobar, 31, was charged with reckless homicide and aggravated reckless driving, according to a statement from Waukegan police. He was also cited for no valid driver's license and no insurance.

Garcia-Escobar went to his girlfriend's home in the 200 block of Liberty Street in Waukegan early Saturday and saw her leaving on the back of the motorcycle with a 27-year-old man, according to police.

He began chasing the motorcycle in his car until he rear-ended the bike at the intersection of McAlister Street and Helmholtz Avenue about 2 a.m., police said.

His girlfriend, 23-year-old Gloria I. Moreno-Castro, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said. She was not wearing a helmet.

The motorcyclist, a 27-year-old Beach Park man, suffered severe injuries and was also taken to a hospital, police said. He remains hospitalized Tuesday morning, but is expected to survive.

Police said Garcia-Escobar and Moreno-Castro have a child together.

Garcia-Escobar, of the 1400 block of Glen Rock Avenue in Waukegan, was taken into custody after the crash, police said. He was ordered held on a $150,000 bond Tuesday.
