Man Charged With Fatal Halloween Shooting, Robbery
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A West Side man has been charged with the fatal shooting of a restaurant employee during a robbery last Halloween in the Austin neighborhood.
Deshawn Johnson, 26, faces counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder and armed robbery for the attack that happened about 7:10 p.m. on Oct. 31, 2014, according to Chicago Police.
Johnson walked into See Thru Chinese Kitchen, 5249 W. Madison St., demanded money and shot a 41-year-old employee in the back, police said.
Chang Z. Qui, of the 3200 block of West Wallace, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:02 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Johnson also is charged with a separate armed robbery at a liquor store in the 3100 block of West Montrose, which allegedly happened on July 26 last year. Police say he robbed the store at gunpoint and then fired a shot at someone.
Johnson, of the 5200 block of West Quincy, is scheduled to appear in bond court on Friday.
