Man Charged With DUI After Lyons Hit-And-Run Crash

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago man was charged with DUI after a hit-and-run crash early Sunday in west suburban Lyons.

At 4:52 a.m., Riverside police responded to a report from Lyons police of a 2004 Nissan fleeing from a hit-and-run crash at Harlem and Ogden Avenues, according to Riverside police. When officers arrived, no vehicles were found at the corner of the intersection, just debris in the roadway.

The victim had been driving a 2015 Jeep south on Harlem at Ogden in Lyons when the Nissan traveling west on Ogden at Harlem blew a red light and struck the Jeep in the intersection, police said. The driver of the Nissan, 29-year-old Mario Arteaga, initially stopped but then fled the scene.

The victim followed Arteaga while calling 911 dispatch centers, police said. Arteaga drove through Riverside, Lyons, Brookfield, La Grange Park and was pulled over at the border between La Grange Park and Westchester, at La Grange Park Road and Cermak Avenue, police said.

Arteaga was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where he initially refused medical treatment before being released back into custody, police said. He failed multiple sobriety tests at the hospital and at the police department.

Arteaga, of the 3000 block of West 55th Street, was charged with felony aggravated drunk driving, hit-and-run, driving with no license and numerous other traffic citations, police said. He did not have a driver's license becuase it had been revoked for prior DUI offenses.
