Man Charged With Calumet City Kidnapping, Sex Assault
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An Indiana man has been charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman earlier this summer in south suburban Calumet City.
Keith Dewitt Davis, 25, faces one count of kidnapping, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. He is also suspected in three other attacks, federal prosecutors said.
Davis and the woman met on the online classified advertising website Backpage.com, and he agreed to pay $120 for sex, prosecutors allege. They met near Burnham Avenue and Memorial Drive in Calumet City on June 27, and he led her to a vacant home where he beat and assaulted her, prosecutors said.
After the attack, he threatened to shoot the woman if she left the bathroom, and he left the house, prosecutors said. A relative then came to take the woman to a hospital.
Three similar sexual assaults were reported over the next two months by other women in the same area of Calumet City, prosecutors said. Davis has not been charged in those cases.
Phone records led investigators to Davis, and during an interrogation, he admitted to meeting the women but said the sex was consensual, prosecutors said.
He was arrested last weekend on a warrant in Indiana and transferred to federal custody in Chicago Friday afternoon.
Davis, is being held at the downtown Metropolitan Correctional Center. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
