Man Charged With Beach Park Shooting

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man has been charged with wounding another man in a shooting early Monday in north suburban Beach Park.

A 42-year-old Waukegan man was talking to an acquaintance in the parking lot of the Shoreline Terrace Apartments in the 38500 block of North Sheridan Road in Beach Park at 1:13 a.m. when a man walked up and shot him, according to a statement from the Lake County sheriff's office. The shooter then ran away.

The victim was shot once in the upper left shoulder, and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

He provided a description of the suspect, and two canine units responded to search for him, but no one was found.

Detectives later identified the shooter as 26-year-old Brandon A. Brown, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's Gang Task Force found Brown on Tuesday at his home in the 1900 block of 10th Street in Waukegan. He tried to flee in his vehicle and struck an unmarked sheriff's squad car, according to police. He was taken into custody, and detectives found 35 grams of cannabis in his possession.

Brown was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated battery, both felonies; and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and unlawful possession of cannabis, according to the sheriff's office. He was ordered held at the Lake County Jail on a $500,000 bond, and is next scheduled to appear in court Oct. 3.
