Man Charged With Arson In Logan Square Blaze That Injured Firefighter

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged with arson for starting a fire that injured a firefighter and displaced at least 10 residents in the Logan Square neighborhood early Wednesday.

Isaiah M. Camacho, 18, of the 4700 block of West Deming, was charged with one count of aggravated arson, Chicago Police announced Wednesday night.

Authorities allege that Camacho walked into a building in the 3500 block of West Palmer Street shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday.

The fire started in the vacant building and "quickly spread" to a neighboring residence, police said.

The fire had been put out by 4:20 a.m., fire officials said.

A firefighter was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with minor injuries, according to a fire department spokesman. No other injuries were reported.

Ten people were displaced by the fire, police said.

Camacho is scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday.
