Former Cop Charged In Case Of Bodies Stuffed In Suitcases
(CBS) -- A former police officer has been charged in connection with the discovery of two dismembered bodies found stuffed in suitcases in Geneva, Wisconsin.
Walworth County Sheriff's police said Steven Zelich -- a former police officer in West Allis, Wisconsin -- has been charged with two counts of hiding a corpse.
Zelich was arrested Wednesday, and police removed bags of evidence from his home in West Allis.
Highway workers discovered the bodies of two women inside suitcases on June 5, along a rural highway in Geneva.
The body of the first victim has been identified as 37-year-old Laura Simonson, of Farmington, Minnesota. She was reported missing on Nov. 22, 2013.
The second body has not yet been identified. Authorities have said the woman appears to be between the ages of 15 and 35, was 5'2" to 5'4' tall, weighed 120 to 140 pounds, and had long straight black or dark brown hair. She had a quarter-sized heart tattoo on her lower left abdomen.
Sheriff's police said Zelich would not appear in court on Thursday, but further information about his case was not immediately available.
Zelich reportedly was forced to resign as a police officer in 2001, following an altercation with a prostitute.
Police digging into his background have found some bizarre details.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports Zelich has been linked with sadomasochistic and bondage web forums, and had posted ads looking for slaves.
