Man Charged In August Double Murder

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged with fatally shooting two teenage boys as they played dice in August in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

Laquan King, 20, faces two counts of first-degree murder for the shooting that happened Aug. 16, according to Chicago Police.

The victims were playing dice in the 1600 block of South Springfield about 9:45 p.m. when King walked up and fired shots, police said.

Jerome Phelps, 19, was shot multiple times and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:26 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 1800 block of South Ridgeway.

Caprice McCollum Jr., 16, was shot in the head and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. McCollum lived in the 1800 block of South Avers.

King, of the 1400 block of South Ridgeway, was scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday.
