Man Caught Robbing Second Cabbie In Lakeview

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A South Side man arrested while holding up his second cab driver of the morning early Tuesday in the North Side Lakeview neighborhood has been ordered held on $500,000 bond.

Deion Brown, 39, was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of possession of a controlled substance, according to Chicago Police.

Brown, of the 6700 block of South Cregier Avenue, flagged a taxi in the 4300 block of North Clark Street about 6 a.m., got in the back and held an object to the back of the driver's head, according to a police source.

He allegedly told the cabbie, "Don't look at me or I'll shoot you. Give me everything you got. You don't want to risk your life," according to the police.

The 33-year-old driver handed Brown $150, and Brown told him to keep looking forward and drive away. After Brown got out of the cab, the driver drove off and called 911, police said.

Officers met the driver and went back to the block where the robbery happened, where they saw Brown in the back of another taxi, holding up another driver, police said.

The 55-year-old driver told police he'd been flagged down by Brown, who got into his cab, announced a stickup and said he had a gun in his jacket.

"Give me all your money or I'll blow your head off," Brown allegedly told the second driver.

Brown was taken into custody and officers found a glass pipe with crack cocaine residue, the police source said. He told police he didn't have a gun and used a cell phone to commit the robberies.

He was ordered held on $500,000 bond during a hearing Wednesday, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office. He is next scheduled to appear in court Feb. 25.
