Man Arrested After Loaded Gun Found In Carry-On At Midway

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police say a 63-year-old Northwest Indiana man was arrested this week at Midway Airport for having a loaded gun in his carry-on bag.

It was about 11:30 a.m. Thursday when the TSA says its agents found the 9-millimeter handgun in the carry-on bag of 63-year-old Thomas Gillespie of Rensselaer, Indiana.

"This was a loaded firearm. It did have a bullet chambered, and it was the ninth firearm detected by our officers this year at Midway," TSA Spokesman Michael McCarthy says.

Gillespie was on his way to Minneapolis when he was stopped, he says.

Chicago Police say Gillespie was charged with one misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed firearm in an airport.
