Man Already Jailed Charged With 2012 Murder
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man already in jail has been charged in connection with a fatal 2012 shooting, police announced Tuesday.
Edgar Guevara, 18, was charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting in the Little Village neighborhood on Aug. 19, 2012, police said.
About 3:30 a.m., Alex Ruiz, 22, was shot in the head as he sat in the back of a Pontiac Grand Prix that had stopped at the intersection of 30th Street and Pulaski Road, authorities said.
Witnesses told police they heard a "loud pop" and saw the rear window shatter. The driver and front-seat passenger turned around and realized their friend had been shot, though they did not see where the gunfire came from, police said.
They drove to a nearby gas station in the 3900 block of West Ogden Avenue, where they called 9-1-1.
Ruiz, of the 2700 block of North Harding, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead at 9:52 a.m., authorities said.Guevara, who is already being held in Cook County Jail on an unrelated charge, is scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday.
