Man Accused Of Calling In Bomb Threat Before Court Hearing
MAYWOOD, Ill. (STMW) -- A west suburban man who was supposed to appear in court on a retail theft charge is now being held without bond after making false bomb threat to the courthouse from a payphone inside the building, police say.
About 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, Maywood police received a call about a bomb threat at the Cook County courthouse in Maywood, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office. The call was made from a payphone inside the building.
The building was searched and nothing suspicious was found, a statement from the sheriff's office said.
Police checked courthouse surveillance cameras and identified Carlos Davila, 34, of Cicero as the suspect who used a payphone at the same time the threat was called in, the statement said.
Davila was charged with felony disorderly conduct and ordered held on a $15,000 bond, according to the sheriff's office.
A sheriff's office spokesman said Davila was at the courthouse for a hearing on a previous retail theft charge. Following the phone incident, he was ordered held without bond on that charge.
