Maggie Daley Park Ice Skating Ribbon opening for the season, celebrating 10th anniversary
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Lace up your skates and take a spin around Maggie Daley Park. The park's ice ribbon opens for the season Friday at 11 a.m.
The Maggie Daley Park Ice Skating Ribbon is celebrating its 10th anniversary. It's modeled after a lazy river and can hold 700 skaters at a time. It drew inspiration from the Frank Gehry-designed pedestrian bridge that connects Maggie Daley Park to Millennium Park.
If you want to hit the ice, start making plans now.
"I would definitely suggest online reservations. We're going to be booked, if not all the way at full capacity. But Monday through Thursday, during the middle of the week before the holidays and afterwards, we do have walkups available as well," said Gage WOlt, parks & marketing manager for Maggie Daley Park.
You can make reservations at maggiedaleypark.com.
As an anniversary treat, skaters will find holiday lights around the ribbon.
Prices start at $17 for skate rental. They also have skate aids for beginners, and skate assist sleds for those with physical disabilities.
You can also help it become the No. 1 ice rink in the nation. It's one of 20 nominees in the USA Today readers' choice poll.
