Made In Chicago: Spartacase Seat Cover
(CBS) -- WBBM's Regine Schlesinger with Made In Chicago reports on a new product, aimed at germophobes.
Skokie restaurant owner Dan Hechtman says airline and movie theater seats are, "Unbelievable, they're dirty. They're filled with billions of germs and bacteria."
He says the "germ" of the idea for his product, the "Spartacase," came when he was on a flight home.
"I was flying back from Los Angeles and I had sat across from someone who, to say the least, was a little questionable. And I really kind of felt sorry for the person who was going to have to sit in that seat on the next flight. And I started wondering who sat in my seat."
So he and business partner Jerry Rosen came up with the idea of a portable, washable seat cover that you can carry with you. Rosen says it easily slips over any airline or movie theater.
"It's so simple to be able to slide over the back of my seat....An airplane is a Petri dish. This is at least my assurance that I'm using as much protection as I can."
Spartacase is sold through the company's website, myspartacase.com, and next month, will be on the market through a national retail chain although for now, Hechtman and Rosen can't say which one.
