Lou Malnati's Voted Chicago's Best Deep Dish; Owner Gets Sauced

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Lou Malnati's Pizza had a celebration fit for a football sideline, after being voted the best deep dish pizza in Chicago.

WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports the poll was conducted by dining website Eater Chicago.

Approximately 50,000 people decided Lou Malnati's has the best deep dish pizza in Chicago.

With 51 percent of the vote, Lou Malnati's beat out other Chicago deep dish staples Pizzeria Uno, Gino's East, and Giordano's. Only Uno came close, with nearly 40 percent of the vote.

Malnati's owner Mark Malnati walked into a kitchen at one of his stores to share the news, and was greeted with loud cheering and high-fives.

Then his employees surprised him with a pizza sauce shower, dumping a tub of cold sauce over his head.
