Local Ukrainians Protest Outside Chicago Consulate

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Protesters gathered once again in front of the Ukrainian consulate in Chicago this afternoon. WBBM's Nancy Harty was there.

Unlike last week, they weren't chanting for the Consul General to resign.

They were paying respects to those killed during protests in Independence Square in Kiev.

Many wrapped themselves in blue and yellow Ukrainian flags and wore ribbons with the European Union symbol.

They sang the Ukrainian National Anthem while standing before a black coffin draped with the flag and roses.

Many of those gathered in the cold say they're hopeful for the future of Ukraine now that President Viktor Yanukovych has left Kiev and the speaker of parliament has been given new powers.
