Lisa Madigan Backs Proposal To Put Video Cameras In Nursing Homes

(CBS) -- The Illinois attorney general is backing lawmakers who want families able to put video cameras in the nursing home rooms where their loved ones live, reports WBBM's John Cody.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan says the idea did not pass in 2007, but should this time around.

"When our loved ones are in nursing homes, they are not always safe and are not always well-cared for," Madigan said. "Two, the constant complaints I receive from family members as well as residents about the conditions that they've experienced in nursing homes and number three, the availability of low-cost technology."

The bill's sponsor, State Senator Terry Link, says his proposal would also allow nursing home video admitted as evidence in criminal proceedings.
