Lifelong Cubs Fan And Veteran, 93, Gets Called Up To Wrigley

(CBS) -- At 93 years, Art Daniels cherishes the memories of serving in the U.S. Army.

"Just turn the pages in that book you can see it. That's my life," he says.

Even 70 years after leaving the service, there's one thing the Chicago Cubs enthusiast doesn't forget.

"I was a diehard fan," Daniels tells CBS 2's Sandra Torres.

He'll stay up into the middle of the night to watch the conclusion of a game, his wife, Rose, says.

That's exactly what he did this past week, when the Cubs won their NLDS contest with the San Francisco Giants, she says.

"He was like, 'Oh my god, you should have seen them.' I'm looking at him and I'm saying, 'You never got that excited when he saw me the first time!'"

The continuing Cubs postseason is like a miracle that's giving him the opportunity to be honored as a veteran during Saturday's game, during the fourth inning.

"We got the call from the Cubs -- Grandpa can go to a playoff game and get honored and we went bananas," his son, Mark Daniels, says.

Says the elder Daniels of his excitement: "I can't describe it."
