Levine: Renteria Reiterates -- Baez Returning To Minors
By Bruce Levine-
(CBS) The news that Cubs phenom shortstop Javier Baez will soon be directed to minor league camp shouldn't be a shock to anyone. Manager Rick Renteria confirmed Thursday that the young power-hitting infielder will go back for more seasoning.
Renteria said that when Baez does come to the big leagues, he won't have to return to the minor leagues due to being rushed.
The 21-year-old Baez hit what was about a 450-foot home run on Wednesday evening that still has people buzzing. He has five Cactus League home runs this spring.
The Cubs also insist that Baez will be playing shortstop at Triple-A this season.
"He really struck that ball well," Renteria said. "You just let him go down and develop. You keep perspective on him."
Baez will bat in the middle of the order against the White Sox on Friday.
