Levine: Dayan Viciedo's Time In Chicago Is Numbered
(CBS) The White Sox continued their flashy and active offseason in the wee hours of Saturday night/Sunday morning when they agreed to a three-year deal with outfielder Melky Cabrera, who will fill a need in left field and bring some much-needed on-base percentage aptitude in front of slugger Jose Abreu.
Cabrera's signing comes on the heels of Chicago also signing David Robertson, Zach Duke and Adam LaRoche and trading for Jeff Samardzija this offseason. And the White Sox probably aren't done, either, according to 670 The Score's Bruce Levine, who said outfielder Dayan Viciedo will soon be moved.
"I don't think they're done yet," Levine said in a Monday morning interview with Mike Mulligan and Len Kasper. "They're going to trade Dayan Viciedo to somebody. He's excess baggage for them and big home run potential for somebody else, at still only age 26. I still would not be shocked if he's moved to Seattle, which has been talked about for the last couple years."
Viciedo hit .231 with 21 homers and 58 RBIs in 145 games in 2014.
Second base has been another question for the White Sox, but they may fill that spot internally by promoting Micah Johnson, one of their top prospects.
"Johnson's a real interesting player because he's a speed player, and he gives them another dynamic (guy) at the top or the bottom of the order, wherever they need him," Levine said. "They now have the on-base percentage with center fielder (Adam Eaton) and the addition of Cabrera. You have two guys that are .350-plus on-base percentage guys, so you can afford to have a young second baseman with a lot of speed."
