Letterman Stuns With Retirement Announcement
(CBS) – David Letterman is calling it a night.
The longtime late-night talk show host stunned his studio audience and his many fans Thursday with the announcement tonight that he'll retire next year.
Letterman brought his brand of humor to CBS back in 1993 after hosting his "Late Night" show on rival NBC.
At Chicago's Second City -- a virtual factory for top comedians -- the question is posed: Who's up next?
"Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, it's completely open. There are so many talented people in that realm, in that community," says marketing director Robin Hammond.
