Legal Marijuana In Chicago? The Mayoral Candidates Weigh In
By John Dodge
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mayoral candidate Willie Wilson didn't exactly stick to the script when he was asked for his position on legalizing marijuana use.
At Tuesday night's mayoral debate, CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine asked the five candidates for a simple yes or no answer, they answered:
William "Dock" Walls: "Yes"
Rahm Emanuel: "No"
Ald. Bob Fioretti: "Yes"
Jesus "Chuy" Garcia: "Not yet, but we should keep an eye toward it."
Willie Wilson: "I would say, uh, yes, they gonna smoke it anyway."
Wilson's response drew hearty laughter from the audience.
Chicago has already loosened the penalty for possessing small amounts of marijuana, making it subject to a fine, rather than a criminal charge.
