Last Month Was Cloudiest June Ever In Chicago; 9th Wettest
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago practically could have issued a missing person alert for the sun last month, which was the cloudiest June on record in Chicago.
According to the National Weather Service, data collected three miles south of Midway International Airport showed only 46 percent of the possible sunshine for June was observed, beating the old record of 48 percent in 1942.
Of course, that's not much of a surprise, given how much rain we had last month. Though Chicago didn't set a record for rainfall in June, it was still the 9th wettest June on record, with 7.12 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service. June 2014 was even worse, clocking in at 5th wettest with 7.81 inches.
Chicago had it easy compared to many other parts of the state, as it was the wettest June on record in Illinois, with 9.53 inches of average statewide precipitation, according to Illinois State Climatologist Jim Angel. It was also the second wettest month on record overall for Illinois. Only September 1926 saw more rain, with an average of 9.62 inches statewide.
Which towns had it worst? Kankakee had 17.22 inches of rain. Ashkum, in Iroquois County, had 17.2 inches. Morris had 15.9 inches. Waseka had 15.58 inches.
The worst rain in the Chicago area was in Rensselaer, Indiana, where 18.06 inches fell in June.
