Lakeview Burglary Suspect Caught On Camera, Leaves Hole In Roof
(CBS) -- A thief with a taste for cash was caught in the act by a surveillance camera at a Lakeview restaurant.
La Gondola, a popular Lakeview pizza place at Ashland and Wellington invites you to dine, but don't try anything else. There are 17 surveillance cameras that will be watching.
The video was rolling before dawn Monday morning as a man cased the alley out back with larceny in mind.
Moments later, he puts a chair on top of an electric box, climbs up with some burglar tools and pulls himself onto the roof.
He spent 70 minutes carving a hole in the roof of the restaurant, then dropped through the ceiling to look for loot.
He searched the kitchen area, then the office and disregarded the warning sign outside. He found a laptop computer and a cash box with approximately $800 inside.
When it was time to leave, surveillance video shows the suspect climb up on the counter, pull himself through the hole in the roof.
Deloise Baines runs the Super Cuts two doors away from La Gondola.
"I believe any of these stores here, he wouldn't get but a little. Not even worth the time," she said.
The La Gondola restaurant was burglarized before in its old location on Belmont. That culprit is still serving time.
Owner Andrew McGuire says this new thief was not only captured on video., he left lots of fingerprints behind.
McGuire is sure he'll be captured for real.
