Lake Zurich Fire Chief Charged With Domestic Battery
(STMW) -- The fire chief of northwest suburban Lake Zurich has been placed on paid leave after being arrested for domestic battery for allegedly attacking his wife Monday evening.
David P. Wheelock, 54, faces one count of domestic battery, according to the Lake County sheriff's office.
Wheelock and his wife had argued Sunday evening, and the fight resumed Monday morning, according to a statement from police. That's when he allegedly pushed her into a wall and threatened her.
His wife suffered injuries consistent with the alleged battery, according to police.
Wheelock was placed on paid leave from his position as chief of the Lake Zurich Fire Department on Tuesday, according to a statement from village manager Jason Slowinski.
"The Village does not condone, nor will it tolerate this type of conduct by any of its employees, as it is not consistent with the values of our organization and community," the statement said.
During Wheelock's absence, Division Chief John Kelly will serve as acting fire chief and emergency management director.
Wheelock posted $2,500 bail and was released, police said. He is next scheduled to appear in court May 27.
