Lake Shore Drive Resurfacing Creates Traffic Headache

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The end of summer usually means end of construction. Right? Not so fast. Most recently, Lake Shore Drive is lousy and the cause of major traffic headaches.

Resurfacing Lake Shore Drive was never going to be fun, but it was supposed to take place on non-peak hours. On Wednesday, it slammed right into the evening commute.

CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports the only thing worse than forever is forever behind the 147 bus on Lake Shore Drive.

"It's been a lot of things that have just been complicating the commute non-stop," said WBBM Traffic Reporter Mike Pries. "You had President Obama come to visit yesterday. Lake Shore Drive shut down a couple of times. The rain also made the expressways lousy, so everyone was taking Lake Shore Drive instead of the expressways."

CDOT said it would cause delays, but it wasn't supposed to do this.

It became escape from Lake Shore Drive.

Alyssa Instagrammed she went six miles in an hour

"I saw it was stopped, but I didn't know how bad it would be," she said. "It was awful. The worst I've ever seen it."

"Awful all morning through the afternoon," Pries said. "This is a sign of what's to come. We've got the bad weather coming."

Keep on expecting non-rush hour delays on Lake Shore Drive through mid-November but that's 9 a.m. to 3 p.m….9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today went until about 7.
