BEACH PARK, Ill. (STMW) -- A Lake County Sheriff's deputy was injured in a crash early Thursday along with his canine partner in north suburban Beach Park.

The deputy, part of the canine unit, was in a department SUV that collided with a garbage truck at Wadsworth Road and Metropolitan Avenue about 5:35 a.m., according to Sgt. Sara Balmes.

The deputy was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where he was treated and released, authorities said.

Balmes said the dog appears to be OK after the crash, and no one else was injured.

Wadsworth was closed between Green Bay Road and Lewis Avenue for several hours after the crash, but reopened about 10 a.m., Balmes said.

Waukegan police are investigating the crash.
