9 dead, 47 wounded in Chicago shootings during Labor Day weekend
CHICAGO (CBS) – At least nine people are dead, and 47 others are wounded in shootings across Chicago over the Labor Day weekend. The ages of the victims range from 13 to 63.
In the first shooting of the weekend, a man, 24, was shot multiple times in West Garfield Park Friday evening.
The victim was standing on the sidewalk, in the 4400 block of West Jackson around 6:30 p.m., when two vehicles approached the victim and multiple offenders exited the vehicles and fired shots striking the victim.
The victim was shot multiple times in the back and was pronounced at the scene.
A 41-year-old man was shot while in a gangway Friday evening in Bridgeport.
Police said the victim was in a gangway smoking, in the 2900 block of South Union around 7:32 p.m., when a red-colored vehicle drove up and an occupant from the vehicle fired shots striking the victim.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
Less than an hour later, two people were shot while in a garage in Parkview.
The victims were hanging out in a garage, in the 3600 block of West 85th Place around 8 p.m., when a dark-colored KIA drove by and an occupant from the vehicle fired shots striking the victims, according to police.
A 42-year-old man was shot in the chest and transported in serious condition to Christ Hospital.
A 38-year-old man was shot in the knee and refused medical attention.
One man is dead and another is critically wounded after being shot in the Loop early Sunday just after midnight. The shooting happened in the 200 block of South Wabash around 12:05 a.m.
Police said the men were walking on the street when they were in an argument with an unknown male who produced a handgun and shot both of the victims. The suspect was accompanied by an unknown female wearing all pink. Both fled southbound on Wabash, police said.
A 37-year-old man suffered two gunshot wounds to the chest and was transported by Chicago Fire Department to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. A 40-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the back and shoulder and was transported by CFD to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition and later died.
No one is in custody. Area Three detectives are investigating.
On Monday evening, two men were shot inside a vehicle in McKinley Park – and one of them did not survive. At 7:41 p.m., the victims – one 31 years old and the other of an unknown age – were in a car in the 3700 block of South Paulina Street when the gunfire struck, police said.
The 31-year-old man was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where he waws pronounced dead. The other man was taken to an unspecified hospital in an unknown condition.
Police said three people were taken into custody and a gun was recovered.
In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday:
· At 10:21 p.m. Friday, in the 2500 block of East 78th Street, a man, 30, was in his vehicle when an unknown vehicle approached, and he then heard shots and felt pain. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was transported by Chicago Fire Department to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition.
· At 11:30 p.m. Friday, in the 3700 block of South Langley, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area and found a man, 30, on the ground with a gunshot wound to the back and was transported by CFD to U of C Hospital in good condition. A second man. 30, was dropped off from the same incident with two gunshot wounds to the left ankle in good condition. Both victims were uncooperative with police about the incident and refused to answer any questions.
· At 11:31 p.m. Friday, in the 4200 block of South Wells, a 27-year-old man was on the street when a dark vehicle approached, and an unknown male exited the vehicle and began shooting in his direction. The victim suffered two gunshot wounds to the right leg and self-transported to Insight Hospital in good condition.
· At 12:04 a.m. Saturday, in the 1300 block of North Hudson, officers responded to shots fired call in the area and found a man, 31, on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported by CFD to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
· At 11:57 p.m. Friday, in the 7900 block of South Crandon, a 15-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk when four unknown males approached all with handguns and fired around 45 rounds at the victim and then fled in an unknown direction. The victim suffered two gunshot wounds to the back and was transported by CFD to U of C Hospital in critical condition.
· At 10:30 p.m. Friday, in the 2300 block of 93rd Street, a man, 19, walked into Trinity Hospital having suffered three gunshot wounds to the right hand and is in good condition. The victim related to officers that he was standing outside of his vehicle when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim then self-transported to the hospital.
· At 2:52 a.m. Saturday, in the 6000 block of South Racine, officers responded to a shots fired call and found a man, 22, laying on the street with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and two to the right arm and was transported to U of C in critical condition where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
· At the 1:53 a.m. Saturday, in the 3400 block of North Clark, a man, 27, was walking on the sidewalk when he was in an argument with an unknown offender who then produced a handgun and fired two times at the victim and fled southbound. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the right thigh and was transported by CFD to Illinois Masonic Hospital in good condition.
· At 3:30 a.m. Saturday, in the 11600 block of South Lowe Avenue, officers responding to a shots fired call and found a man, 28, with a gunshot wound to the right leg. The victim was uncooperative with officers and refused to answer any questions about the incident. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.
· At 10:23 a.m. Saturday, in the 10900 block of South Wentworth, a woman, 29, was shot during an argument with a female offender who produced a gun and shot the victim. The victim was transported to Advocate Christ in critical condition.
· At 11:56 a.m., in the 4900 block of West Adams Street, a 31-year-old man was sitting outside when a vehicle approached from the street and an unknown offender exited the vehicle and began firing in the victim's direction. The victim was struck by gunfire in the upper right side of the body and transported to Loretto Hospital in stable condition. The offender fled in the vehicle in an unknown direction.
· At 3:50 p.m. Saturday, in the 700 block of East 103rd Street, a 28-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, finger, and forearm. The victim was transported to U of C hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead. The victim had an argument with an unknown offender at a gas station when the offender pulled out a handgun from a fanny pack and fired shots.
· At 8:10 p.m. Saturday, in the 3500 block of West Montrose Avenue, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the left ear. The victim was transported to IL Masonic Hospital in good condition. The victim was traveling in a vehicle when the victim heard shots and felt pain. The victim was not the intended target, police say.
· At 8:39 p.m. Saturday, in the 3600 block of South Hamilton Avenue, a man, 20, was in an argument with a known male associate when it escalated to a fight and the offender produced a handgun and fired shots at the victim. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the mid back and the left shoulder and self-transported to Mt Sinai Hospital in good condition.
· AT 8:55 p.m. Saturday, in the 400 block of North Lasalle Street, a man, 38, was driving southbound on Lasalle when a black jeep approached, and an unknown male offender fired four shots into the victim's vehicle. The victim was shot in the right cheek and was transported by CFD to Northwestern Hospital in good condition.
· At 9:48 p.m. Saturday, in the 8800 block of South Marquette Avenue, a man, 18, was in his vehicle when he was approached by an unknown male offender who displayed a handgun and demanded property. The victim drove away immediately and was shot in the upper left arm. The victim drove himself to Trinity Hospital in good condition.
· At 10:19 p.m. Saturday, in the 1600 block of South Lawndale Avenue, officers responded to shots fired call in the area and found a woman, 63, and a male, 20's, on the sidewalk having suffered gunshots. The woman was shot in the left leg and transported by CFD to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition. The man was shot in the right ankle and also transported to Mt. Sinai in good condition.
· At 10:46 p.m. Saturday, in the 700 block of North Spaulding, a man, 34, was sitting on the porch when a black sedan driving northbound on Spaulding stopped in front of his location and someone unknown inside the vehicle fired shots. The victim was shot in the groin and was transported by CFD to Stroger in critical condition.
· At 11:15 p.m. Saturday, in the 6600 block of South Evans Avenue, a man, 29, was inside a residence when he was in an argument with a known male who then produced a handgun and fired shots at the victim who then fled. Officers entered and found the victim on the floor having sustained a gunshot wound to the right neck and arm area and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A weapon was recovered near the scene.
· At 12:20 a.m. Sunday, in the 6000 block of South Ada Street, officers responded to shots fired call in the area and found a man, 22, running on the sidewalk who stated he was just shot. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen and was transported by CFD to U of C in critical condition. The victim was very uncooperative with officers about the incident and refused to answer any questions.
· At 12:09 a.m. Sunday, in the 1400 block of South Central Park, a woman, 22, was a passenger in a vehicle going southbound on Central Park when a white truck approached, and an unknown person inside fired shots at the victim. The victim was shot in the right thigh and self-transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
· At 1:15 a.m. Sunday, in the 1900 block of South State Street, a man, 62, was exiting his vehicle when he heard shots and felt immediate pain to his leg. A witness related there was a dark sedan speeding away at the time. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the right upper thigh and was transported by CFD to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
· At 12:40 a.m. Sunday, in the 3200 block of West Arthington Street, a man, 38, self-transported to Mt. Sinai hospital with a gunshot wound to the groin and is in good condition. The victim related that he was standing on the sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain.
· At 1:28 a.m. Sunday, in the 5700 block of South Aberdeen Street, two people were standing on the sidewalk when an unknown vehicle approached, and an unknown offender exited and fired shots in the victim's direction. A man, 22, suffered a gunshot wound to the left shoulder and leg and self-transported to St Bernard Hospital in good condition. A woman, 28, suffered a gunshot wound to the left hand and was transported by CFD to St Bernard Hospital in good condition.
· At 8:10 p.m. Saturday, in the 2600 block of West Crystal Street, officers responded to shots fired call in the area and found a man, 43, sitting on the ground and having sustained a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen. The victim was very uncooperative with officers about the incident and refused to answer any questions.
· At 11:45 p.m. Saturday, in the 7400 block of South Hoyne Avenue, a man, 25, was standing on the street when he observed a red sedan approached and someone unknown from inside the vehicle fired shots. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the left thigh and self-transported to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.
· At 1:30 a.m. Sunday, in the 700 block of South Kostner, a 13-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left knee and was taken to West Suburban Hospital in good condition.
· At 4:53 a.m. Sunday, in the 5700 block of West Grand Avenue, officers responding to shots fired a call in the area and saw a male running towards their squad car. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the left thigh and was transported by CFD to Illinois Masonic in critical condition. The victim was very uncooperative and refused to answer any questions about the incident.
· At 2:25 am Sunday, in the 3500 block of North Clark, a 43-year-old man self-transported to Resurrection Hospital with one gunshot wound to his left leg in good condition. The victim was uncooperative with Responding Officers.
· At 5:29 p.m. Sunday, in the 6100 block of South Wabash Avenue, a man, 47, was inside of a residence with a known offender when they began arguing over a firearm and in the process, the victim was struck to the ankle. The victim self-transported to U of C Hospital initially reported in good condition. The incident remains under investigation.
· At 6:47 p.m. Sunday, in the 8600 block of South Kingston Avenue, four men were near the front of a residence when an unknown offender approached the victims, produced a handgun, and fired shots. An 18-year-old man was struck in the forearm and thigh and was transported to an unknown hospital in fair condition. A 20-year-old man was struck in the abdomen and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital initially reported in fair condition. Another 20-year-old man was struck in the buttocks and stomach and was transported to Christ Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Another male of unknown age was struck multiple times to the body and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
· At 9:54 p.m. Sunday, in the 5600 block of South Seeley Avenue, officers responding to a shots fired called and found a man, 27, laying on the sidewalk. The victim sustained three gunshot wounds to the groin area and was transported to U of C hospital in critical condition. The victim was uncooperative with officers about the incident.
· At 11:42 p.m. Sunday, in the 4500 block of West Cornelia Avenue, a man, 41, was in an argument in his vehicle with an unknown female and someone unknown fired shots. The victim self-transported to Community First Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head.
· At 12:44 a.m. Monday, in the 7500 block of South Paxton Avenue, a man, 40, was a passenger in a vehicle when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the left eye and was taken to U of C hospital in critical condition.
· At 3:39 a.m. Monday, in the 9600 block of South Calumet Avenue, a man, 31 was walking on the sidewalk when a black Jeep approached and someone unknown fired shots at the victim. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the lower left back and was taken to Christ hospital in good condition.
· At 10:05 a.m. Monday, in the 200 block of South Halsted Street, a man wielding an axe got into an argument with a security guard outside a marijuana dispensary, and hit the guard in the leg with the axe. The security guard, a 37-year-old man, shot the man who attacked him. The man with the axe was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The security guard was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, with lacerations to his leg.
· At 12:09 p.m. Monday, in the 800 block of North Central Avenue, a 22-year-old man was outside when he heard shots and felt pain. He was taken to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the left leg, and was listed in good condition.
· At 2:20 p.m. Monday, a 19-year-old man walked into St. Bernard Hospital after being shot in the elbow in the 6200 block of South Yale Avenue in Englewood. He was reported in good condition and was uncooperative with officers.
· At 3:47 p.m. Monday, a 19-year-old man was near the street in the 4400 block of South Wood Street in Back of the Yards when six men came up and began battering him. At least one man in the group fired shots. The victim was shot in the chest and back and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
· At 4:34 p.m. Monday, a 22-year-old man was near the sidewalk in the 3100 block of West 71st Street in Chicago Lawn when he was shot in the leg. He self-transported to Holy Cross Hospital in fair condition.
· At 10:54 p.m. Monday, a 27-year-old man was walking in the 2900 block of East 83rd Street, when someone started shooting. The man suffered a graze wound to the ear, and refused to go to the hospital.
· At 3:18 a.m. Tuesday, a 22-year-old woman was walking through an alley in the 4500 block of West Adams Street, when someone shot her in the thigh. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
