Killer Menu: Ada Street's Restaurant Week Choices Inspired By Famous Last Meals
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The head of a victims' rights group said she's horrified by what one Chicago restaurant is doing for this year's Restaurant Week.
Ada Street, a restaurant near North Avenue and the Kennedy Expressway, is basing its menu on the last meals requested by convicted killers before their executions: figures like John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, and Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.
Executive chef Zoë Schor said it's a way to provoke thought about what you might want as your last meal.
"It's provocative and interesting," she said. "While some people might find it a little bit dark, I hope that we don't offend anyone, that people don't feel like we're glorifying the crime."
However, that's exactly what Jennifer Bishop-Jenkins feels. After three of her family members were slain 25 years ago, she began advocating for victims' rights.
"Mass murderers, serial killers, people who murdered people; when there's loved ones left behind, it's incredibly insensitive," she said.
She was urging the restaurant to reconsider and scrap the idea.
