Kelly's Sports Bar: A Cubs Oasis In Heart Of Mets Town

Listen to A Cubs Oasis In NYC

(CBS) -- If you're going to New York this weekend or if you're a Cubs fan living in the Big Apple, there's a place you'll feel right at home.

Kelly's Sports Bar bills itself as the only Cubs bar in New York, WBBM's Lisa Fielding reports.

"It's going to be absolutely, utterly insane this weekend," manager Al Landess predicted on the eve of the National League Championship Series between the Cubs and the Mets.

"We get some locals and diehards every once in awhile," Landess says, "but in the eight years we've been here, the Cubs never really did very well. The momentum is building, and we've been on a roll ever since. We will have 95 percent Cubs fans here tomorrow and Sunday."

Landess says the owner of Kelly's decided to go with a Cubs theme after visiting the Friendly Confines about 10 years ago in hopes of attracting the kind of people he met in Chicago's Wrigleyville neighborhood.

The bar manager says fans will feel right at home.

"Our windows are painted with Cubs, we have Cubs banners in the bar, we have Cubs memorabilia all over the walls," Landess says. "It's noticeably a Cubs bar. We even painted a mural of (Cubs Manager) Joe Maddon on the wall."

Kelly's Sports Bar is located near the corner of Houston Street on Avenue A in Manhattan's East Village.
