Jonathan Toews Named All-Star Captain, Will Get To Pick His Team Schoolyard Style
(CBS) Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews has been named a captain for the NHL All-Star Game, meaning he'll play a leading role in selecting his team for the game as the league uses its schoolyard style of choosing sides.
Blue Jackets forward Nick Foligno has been named the other captain. In a twist, Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane has been designated an assistant captain to Foligno, so he and Toews won't be on the same team. Drew Doughty of the Kings is also an assistant captain on the team.
Toews' assistant captains are Ryan Getzlaf of the Ducks and Rick Nash of the Rangers.
"It's pretty cool," Toews said of being named a captain. "It's not something I expected. Definitely an honor."
Teams will be chosen in a fantasy draft on Jan. 23. The skills competition is set for the following day, while the All-Star Game will be played Jan. 25 in Columbus.
Goalie Corey Crawford, defenseman Duncan Keith and defenseman Brent Seabrook are the other Blackhawks players who've been selected to the All-Star Game.
