Attempted carjacking leads to crash on Chicago's Northwest Side

Man hospitalized after Chicago carjacking

CHICAGO (CBS)-- A man was hospitalized after an attempted carjacking led to a crash in the Jefferson Park neighborhood.

CBS 2's Mugo Odigwe reports from Lutheran General Hospital where the man is now being treated.

A white Ford SUV had serious front-end damage. Police said it was the car the victim, a 38-year-old man, was driving.

CPD said he was going northbound on Central just before midnight when two armed male suspects tried to stop him and take his car.

That's when the victim accelerated and then crashed into a guard rail near Goodman and Central in Chicago's Jefferson Park neighborhood.

The location is less than two miles away from Edgebrook where police said a man was pistol-whipped and carjacked Thursday morning.

It also involved two armed male suspects.

Police said several suspects were later arrested in that incident and right now charges are pending.

But as for the most recent case with the victim who hit the guard rail, there've been no arrests yet.

Police said they are still investigating but the victim is expected to be okay.
