Jay Cutler Becomes Bears' All-Time Passing Touchdown Leader

The Bears' new all-time leader in passing touchdowns is Jay Cutler, who earned the record in the second quarter of Monday's game in San Diego.
Cutler now is the Bears' all-time leader in the category with 138 touchdowns thrown, passing Luckman's mark of 137 cemented in 1950. It came in a 22-19 victory over the Chargers on Monday night, one in which Cutler led the Bears from behind in the fourth quarter.
"That's what the NFL is about," Cutler told reporters afterward. "You got to play your best in the fourth quarter."
The Bears have had Cutler as a starting quarterback since 2008. Of his 138 touchdowns thrown, 26 have gone to Brandon Marshall and 17 have gone to Alshon Jeffery. The record-breaking touchdown was a one-yard strike to tight end Martellus Bennett, his 12th score from Cutler.
With the touchdown from Cutler to Bennett, the Bears cut their deficit to 13-7 in the second quarter. The Chargers benefited from a Cutler interception that ended up as a Jason Verrett 68-yard touchdown return.
However, Cutler responded in the second half and led the Bears on a comeback victory, their third of the season.
"It just says a lot about the guy," Bears coach John Fox said, "how he responded in the second half."
