Javan Johnson and DePaul earn OT win over Samford

CHICAGO (AP) — Javan Johnson scored 28 points, including seven in the overtime, as DePaul defeated Samford 103-98 on Wednesday.

Johnson added four blocks for the Blue Demons (4-3). Umoja Gibson added 18 points while shooting 5 for 13 (3 for 9 from 3-point range) and 5 of 6 from the free throw line, and he also had six rebounds and nine assists. Da'Sean Nelson was 6 of 8 shooting, including 2 for 3 from distance, and went 4 for 6 from the line to finish with 18 points. Philmon Gebrewhit had 18 with three 3s.

Logan Dye finished with 23 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (6-3). Samford also got 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists from Bubba Parham. Jaden Campbell also put up 12 points and two steals.

Jermaine Marshall made a nifty baseline drive and reverse layup for DePaul to force the overtime.

DePaul entered halftime up 50-49. Philmon Gebrewhit paced the team in scoring in the first half with 10 points. Johnson scored 15 second-half points as DePaul and Samford ended regulation tied 89-89. Johnson was 2 of 3 shooting and 2 of 4 from the free throw line on the way to his seven points in the overtime.
