Jackson Fundraiser To Be Sentenced In Unrelated Bribery Case
CHICAGO (AP) -- A Chicago-area businessman convicted of bribery is scheduled to be sentenced, and a federal judge may consider the man's alleged role in the scandal involving former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Raghuveer Nayak wasn't charged in the case of the now-imprisoned former governor. But Nayak is alleged to have offered to raise $1 million for Blagojevich's campaign if he named then-Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. to President Barack Obama's old Senate seat.
A government court filing says the sentencing judge should consider those allegations, arguing that Nayak "corrupted the political process."
Nayak will be sentenced Wednesday for bribing doctors for referrals to surgery centers he owned. Prosecutors are seeking a prison term of up to seven years and three months.
