Instructor Says Teaching In Chicago Has Never Given Her The 'Blues'
The challenge of being a leader in the corporate world is knowing how to recognize different personality types and understanding how they learn. While Let Me Learn educational courses may be more popular for students, the learner evaluation quiz is becoming handy for employers and employees, too.
As any corporate leader and educator can confirm, employees tend to have varying habits when it comes to the classroom and the office.
While quizzes like LML may help students, employees and managers fine-tune their learning style, leadership courses in higher education are giving them an additional perspective on tips to career success.
"Leadership is hands down one of the most important courses for anyone," said Chamille Weddington, a lecturer at Columbia College's Business & Entrepreneurship Department. "There needs to be a development of listening skills, team building, a discussion on ethics, and developing people so that they're culturally competent and able to interface with people of different ethnicities."
"College grooms the student in the area of leadership as well. Their candidate strengths are not solely hinged on book smarts, but fortified with integrity, work ethic and resilience."
Weddington's college background consists of a bachelor's degree in Liberal Education, and a master's degree focused on Promotions Marketing and Arts Management. She's taught courses in Entrepreneurship, Entertainment Marketing, Leadership, Special Events Management and Writing for Managers.
Teaching courses like entertainment marketing are her niche area due to her early work skills as an administrative assistant for Windy City Sports Magazine, as a marketing intern for Buddy Guys Legends, an advertising sales representative for the "Bluesletter," and an event campaign planner for Beyond DDB's clients.
Being able to blend her fondness for entertainment, arts management and teaching has made her even more excited about helping others.
"I've had an opportunity to teach hundreds of students across several socio-economic backgrounds for the last 12 years. One thing remains constant though: the challenge to think more critically about instructional content so that my curriculum is current, engaging and rigorous. When students who have benefited from my instruction send a note to say thank you or to share their successes and latest ventures, I know that my work is done."
