'Instinct' Told Gasol To Choose Bulls
(CBS) With serious interest from title contenders in San Antonio and Oklahoma City, Pau Gasol had a tough choice before deciding to play in Chicago. So what made the difference?
His gut.
"Instinct told me to pick Chicago," Gasol told the Associated Press, adding he came to that decision after speaking with Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah.
Gasol chose the Bulls last Saturday after spending 6 1/2 seasons with the Lakers. He averaged 17.4 points and 9.7 rebounds last season and, along with the newly added forward Nikola Mirotic from the Spanish League, will be counted on to provide an offensive infusion and versatility for Chicago.
The 7-foot Gasol called Chicago the logical choice because, "Without doubt it is one of the championship favorites in the East alongside Cleveland."
"Nothing is guaranteed wherever you sign," Gasol said. "I'm happy with my choice."
Gasol has agreed to a three-year deal worth $22 million, according to reports, while Mirotic has agreed to a three-year, $17-million contract.
Gasol also expects Mirotic to "make an immediate impact" with the Bulls.
