Indiana State Troopers Credited With Saving Man From Overdose
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two Indiana State Police troopers have been credited with saving a man's life after a drug-related crash near Gary on Thursday.
The troopers were dispatched to a single-car crash on Interstate 80/94 in the Gary/Lake Station area around 4 p.m., and arrived to find a Good Samaritan performing CPR on the unconscious driver.
One trooper took over the CPR. The other noticed potential signs of an opioid overdose, and gave the man two doses of naloxone, an opiate antidote.
An ambulance arrived, and the man regained consciousness on the way to the hospital. The trooper's supervisor thanked the Good Samaritan for his help, and said thanks to the opioid overdose training the troopers received and the naloxone they carry, the man's life was saved.
