Illinois Measles Cases Climb To 14 With Another Infant Sick
CHICAGO (AP) -- Health officials say the measles case count in Illinois has climbed to 14.
Illinois Department of Public Health spokeswoman Melaney Arnold said Tuesday that another infant from a Palatine day care is the most recent confirmed case in the outbreak.
All 14 cases have been in Cook County, with 2 adults and 12 infants affected. Thirteen of the 14 cases have been associated with a KinderCare Learning Center in Palatine.
Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that causes a rash and fever. It can be dangerous, especially to young children. Vaccination is the best way to prevent measles.
Health officials are still investigating possible causes for the cluster of cases.
