Ice Falls From West Loop Building, Smashes Windshield, Motorist Says
(CBS) – Falling ice becomes a concern each spring for pedestrians and others in Chicago as temperatures rise.
Motorist Joan Clay learned earlier than most. She says she was driving in the West Loop when a piece of ice came crashing down on her windshield.
It happened on Randolph near the Chicago River on Thursday afternoon. The ice is believed to have fallen from the 36-floor Boeing Corp. building, CBS 2's Derrick Blakley reports.
"Luckily it didn't get in my eyes, but it's all in my clothes, it's in my hair," Clay said as she waited for a technician to arrive and fix her windshield. "My hands are cut up. I was able to pull over."
Authorities closed Randolph from Wacker to Canal.
