Ice Damage To Roofs Getting Worse As Deep Freeze Intensifies
(CBS) --As our brutal winter weather continues, the snow, ice, and extreme cold are really causing problems up above.
Case in point: the buckling roof at the Toebel Lumber warehouse in Schererville, Ind.
"Nobody could be allowed inside the building any longer," Joe Kruzan of the Schererville Fire Department says.
Gariup Construction is trying to repair the building. They say heavy snow and ice can stress roofs walls and gutters on houses.
That's something residents Karen and Ray Marsh have been battling for years. They have icicles stretching their way from roof to ground.
"It's gotten worse as the season has progressed," Marsh says.
Heat from the roof melts snow, and the water runs and freezes over and over.
Ray built a tool to break them, without tearing up his house in the process.
