Hundreds Of Motorcyclists Take Part In Ride To Remember Fallen Officers
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Hundreds of motorcycle riders came out Sunday morning for the 11th annual Ride to Remember honoring fallen Chicago police officers, reports WBBM's Nancy Harty.
Many of the riders wearing leather vests and patches with the American flag were not police officers, but veterans.
"We support the police and the families of all the fallen officers so we can make sure that their kids are well taken care of," said one rider.
The charity ride went from Area 4 Police Headquarters on the West Side to the Gold Star Families Memorial in the Museum Campus.
Phil Cline is the executive director of the foundation that built the memorial.
"Not only does the money go to a great cause, but it is great camaraderie," said Cline. "You've got police officers from all different suburbs here, all different motorcycle groups and they all get together and come down here. It means a lot to the families. It shows the families that we haven't forgot them."
Organizers say in the last decade, the ride has raised $171,000 for the families of fallen police officers.
