Human head found in box on Chicago's West Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An investigation was underway after a human skull was found inside a box last week in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.

Police said shortly before 6 p.m. on Thursday, someone walking on the sidewalk in the 2600 block of West Taylor Street found a box containing human remains.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office later confirmed it was a human head inside the box.

The skull was sent to an anthropologist in an effort to identify who the person was.

The anthropologist is expected to check dental records, and might be able to help determine how the person died, according to the medical examiner's office.
