Horse Triggers Fire Alarm At Arlington Park

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (CBS) -- Firefighters responded to Arlington International Racecourse on Monday, after a horse set off a fire alarm.

WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports, when a fire alarm sounds at Arlington Park, those who have been around for some time remember the big fire in 1985, when a fast-moving blaze destroyed the grandstand and clubhouse.

On Monday, an alarm sounded just before 6 p.m. in an area known as Barn 22. Responding firefighters found no smoke or flames, and after investigating determined a horse had activated the alarm when the animal chewed through wires for the alarm system.

Maintenance crews were making repairs to ensure such an accident can't happen again.
