Hoosiers Cruise Past Eastern Illinois 88-49 In Opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- James Blackmon Jr. scored 17 points, Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell added 13 and No. 15 Indiana routed Eastern Illinois, 88-49, on Friday night.

The Hoosiers (1-0) have won all eight season openers under coach Tom Cream and 18 in a row overall. They also have won 31 consecutive home openers.

Eastern Illinois (0-1) was led by A.J. Riley with 13 points and Trae Anderson with 12.

But the Panthers were no match for the new-look Hoosiers, who took control with a 7-0 run early in the first half, and then started pulling away with a 12-3 spurt that made it 28-16.

The Hoosiers extended the margin to 49-17 at halftime.
