Holiday Season Getting Into Full Swing Downtown
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Winter weather was the only thing missing downtown on Friday as the city prepared to usher in the holiday season.
Christkindlmarket was set to open at Daley Plaza at 11 a.m., the ice skating rink at Millennium Park was opening at noon, and the city's official Christmas tree was being lit at 6:30 p.m.
The trumpets have been out at Macy's for several days, heralding the start of Christmas shopping.
You won't see crowds wearing winter coats and hats, though, as temperatures were expected to hit the mid 60s on Friday.
However, temperatures and the season will start lining up, as highs will be in the low 40s on Saturday and Sunday, and the middle to upper 40s through the end of next week.
That should make for more appropriate winter weather when the ice skating ribbon at Maggie Daley Park opens on Nov. 25.
