Start of October bringing nice fall weather to Chicago area

Chicago, it might be time to whip out those fall jackets

CHICAGO (CBS) — A cooler airmass is settling in behind Tuesday morning's cold front, setting the stage for nice fall weather to begin October.

Low temperatures Tuesday night may dip into the upper 30s in the coldest rural valleys, with upper 40s in Chicago.

Depending on the amount of high clouds insulating the Chicago area overnight, some neighborhoods might be cooler.

A roller coaster ride on the high temperature scale is expected over the next week as a series of Canadian storm systems remain too far north to bring much meaningful rain to the area, but will send a series of cold fronts to the region.

Breezy winds will also accompany the fronts, especially on Friday and Sunday.

Tonight: Scattered clouds. Cool. Low: 49

Tomorrow: Mild sunshine. High: 72

Thursday: Increasing clouds. Warm. High: 81
