Cooler temperatures coming in; widespread rain arriving Friday

CHICAGO (CBS) — Cooler breezes blowing into the Chicago area following Wednesday's cold front subside overnight. 

Under mainly clear skies, the stage will be set for a freeze in the western suburbs, while temperatures hover closer to 40 degrees in Chicago.

Expect a pleasant autumn day Thursday as we track our next storm system approaching from the Pacific Northwest.

Widespread rain moves in after midnight Thursday night and now looks to linger into your Friday morning commute. This could be our most widespread and beneficial rainfall in one month, with average rain totals expected to reach 0.50". Rain will clear the area late Friday morning.

Overnight rain will clear by late morning, bringing breezy sunshine, and a high of 63.
