Heat And Humidity Could Bring Storms Tuesday And Wednesday

CHICAGO (CBS) -- After a relatively comfortable weekend, hot and muggy conditions have returned to the Chicago area, and that heat could fuel a couple rounds of thunderstorms later this week.

The official temperature in Chicago was already up to 84 by 11 a.m. Monday, hotter than at any point on Saturday or Sunday, and the mercury could hit 90 by mid-afternoon.

The heat and humidity were expected to linger through Wednesday, with highs in the upper 80s or low 90s for each of the next three days.

Tuesday and Wednesday also could bring more thunderstorms to Chicago, with the first showers likely coming Tuesday afternoon. There is only a marginal risk of severe storms on Tuesday, but that chance ramps up to a slight risk on Wednesday, when there could be more storms in the afternoon and evening.

Calmer conditions should arrive on Thursday, with temperatures in the low 80s and mostly clear skies.

Friday should offer a relatively mild start to the weekend, with a high around 80.
