Head Of City Council Latino Caucus Raising Funds For Youth Mentorship Foundation
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Chicago City Council Latino Caucus is on a mission, to elevate its status and raise funds for its Latino Youth Foundation, reports WBBM's Keith Johnson.
One part of the Latino Causus's mission will begin on November 20 with a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser at the Field Museum. The goal is to raise $500,000 at the event.
Latino Caucus and Latino Youth Foundation chairman Alderman George Cardenas says he wants to leverage relationships to give Latino youth a bridge to the future.
"Give them the structure, the mentorship, the corporate world, tying them into government and all the other areas where perhaps it's a very thin group of people that are entering the fields of technology and health and so on," he said.
Cardenas says fundraising is important and you can give someone a scholarship, but he says that is not enough, you still need mentoring and relationships.
